An update on the 2019 races from the Pinnacle Guinea Pig Race Club via their Facebook page:
"The Pinnacle Guinea Pig Races over the years have been synonymous with Grenfell and the Henry Lawson Festival. The Races have been absent from the programme for the last two years, and they have been sorely missed, so a band of devotees have rallied around to bring guinea pig racing back to be a part of the 2019 Henry Lawson Festival.
The Pinnacle Guinea Pig Races inception came about some 35 years ago on the property, “Milroy” Pinnacle, then owned by the Heathcote family. After a few quenching ales on a Sunday afternoon, the sport of guinea pig racing was born. From its humble beginnings with a few planks of wood strategically placed a beer can width apart, evolved into an institution, with a world-class, four-lane track, complete with members stand (others sit) and TIB (Total Illegal Betting) facilities. The Pinnacle Guinea Pig Race Club has literally had thousands of people passed through their gates to witness the unique sport of guinea pig racing. All money generated from the races has been injected back into the community in the form of donations with beneficiaries ranging from Senior Citizens to supporting students at the Henry Lawson High School for science challenges.
This year the races are coming to town and will be staged at the Grenfell Country Club on Sunday 9th of the June Long Weekend. There will still be the mad-capped entertainment of watching the unpredictable four-legged fury critters run and jump, yes, there are hurdles races too, so make sure you come along.
Have you got a guinea pig? You might have a Winx? Nominate your guinea pig to race in this prestigious event. Nominations will close on May 26th. For more information phone Grenfell Country Club (02) 6343 1634. Like us Facebook Pinnacle Guinea Pig Race Club"
